PACE Awards for Innovation 2009

PACE are delighted to run, for the 2nd year, an awards initiative called the 'PACE Awards for Innovation'. These awards are open to individuals, departments, schools, colleges or partnerships that have introduced innovative initiatives or activities over the last 12 months in hospitality training and development.

These prestigious awards are open to all PACE members. Winners receive superb trophies. Details of the awards and their criteria are summarised below:

Nominations will be sought between February and March 2009. Three finalists will be selected for each award, and the winners announced during the PACE Conference & Exhibition Gala dinner - on Thursday 2nd April 09 at Whittlebury Hall, Towcester, Northamptonshire.

The five award categories were:

John Crowe

Innovative use of Technology Award

Sponsored by EDI
For example – computers in kitchens, hand held devices for completing questionnaires or the use of SMS for correspondence with students.

Winner:
John Crowe, The School of Hospitality, North West Regional College

Runner up:
Luane Quigley, North West Regional College

Runner up:
Mike Coppock, Northampton College

 

Gary Hunter

Innovative Teaching and Learning Good Practice Award

Sponsored by The Craft Guild of Chefs
For example - innovative ways to engage learners with new messages in a very lively and imaginative way - used more for theoretical messages than practical.

Winner:
Gary Hunter, Westminster Kingsway College

Runner up:
Sandra Leaver, City of Sunderland College

Runner up:
Patricia Paskins, Thames Valley University

Innovative Learning Materials Award

Sponsored by Acquire Services
For example - booklets, stickers, cds, folders, intranet, social networking sites - any material used in learning that is innovative and interesting.

Winner:
Patricia Paskins, Thames Valley University

Runner up:
The Vineyard at Stockcross with Thames Valley University

 

David Foskett

Innovative Partnership with Industry Award

Sponsored by the Institute of Hospitality
For example - this might be a partnership with an employer, where the lecturer goes into industry, or the employer comes into the college. This award is looking for examples of anything that promotes a good experience with another organisation.

Winner:
Thames Valley University and The Vineyard at Stockcross

Runner up: Frances Davies, Coleg Menai

Runner up: Rachel Kitt, South Devon College

 

Andrew Neiring

Innovative Partnership with Education Award

Sponsored by City & Guilds
For example – this might be partnerships with schools that encourage young learners into schools, or college partnerships with overseas colleges. This award is looking for examples of anything that promotes a good experience with another organisation.

Winner:
Andrew Neiring, South Devon College

Runner up: Melody Dawes, Cengage Learning

Runner up: Louise Crompton, Stafford College
